Shrek for Halloween: How to Make a Shrek Halloween Costume

Better Out Than in Donkey

If you are entertaining the notion of being Shrek for Halloween, then you may want to consider also having a Fiona. And a donkey, but that might require two of you in the costume. You could very easily go shopping for your Shrek Halloween costume at the local costume store, but that costs a considerable amount of money. Instead, you can easily make your own Shrek and Fiona Halloween costumes this year for the trick or treating season.

Let's start with the Shrek Halloween costume. Shrek for the most part is pretty easy to put together. You need a pair of plaid pants. While Shrek wears two different colors of plaid in the three movies, any pair of plaid pants will work for your Halloween costume. You can probably find an appropriate pair of pants at a retro clothing store or used clothing store. If you remember correctly, plaid pants were all the rage in the 1970s. You never know. Maybe you have a pair hiding in a steamer trunk in the attic.

Once you have the pants, add a pair of boots to them and your bottom is finished. Shrek's shirt is a cream or white tunic that you can easily make from a basic square tunic pattern. Add a brown vest to the tunic and you've clothed yourself as Shrek. But Shrek is decidedly green and his ears or horns are on his head. You can either purchase a Shrek face mask to wear with the rest of your costume or you can get the ogre horns on a head piece and then paint your face, neck and hands Shrek green.

Fiona is easy to create for your Shrek couple Halloween costume. All you need is a floor length blue dress or a floor length green velvet dress. Fiona's hair is red, so you may need to get a red wig to pull her off. You will need to make sure the wig is long enough to braid. Add your ogre horns, paint your face, neck and hands green, and you have the perfect Fiona Halloween costume. A pair of nice shoes that are comfortable to walk in finishes off Fiona's costume.

Regardless of if you are going as Shrek or Fiona, you must have your own Puss'N'Boots. You can purchase these dolls at your local toy store and he will look great riding on your shoulder or in your arms as you trick or treat or dance the night away at your company Halloween party in your Shrek Halloween costume. Plus, you may want to carry along a donkey. That way the entire crew is complete and you will have the best Halloween costume from Never Never Land.
