Shrek the Third: A Movie Review

Erica Jobman
Is it happily ever after after all? Just when you think Shrek finally gets to go home to his filthy swamp, something else comes up. "Who's ready for thirds?" (tagline)

"Shrek the Third" continues the adventures of the endearing ogre, Shrek, and his wife, Fiona. When King Harold falls ill, he names Shrek as the next-in-line for the throne of Far Far Away. However, the reluctant Shrek asks for the name of another heir. His name: Arthur Pendragon. Wit the help of Donkey and Puss in Boots, Shrek sets off to find the young boy so that he and Fiona can return to their beloved swamp. However, there are a few complications along the way. Fiona is pregnant, little Artie doesn't want the throne, and Prince Charming is rallying the villians took take the throne for himself.

I was looking forward to seeing the movie. It was nice to see the characters again with the promise of "the pitter patter of little feet" in the swamp. It was an amusing movie to watch. However, the fans may have been ready for thirds, but I'm not sure the movie-makers were quite ready.

The story was promising, but the story line was surprisingly overlooked. It was there, but it wasn't as strong as in the other two movies. It had it's moments, but I felt that the movie could have been longer. For instance, after Shrek and the others successfully find Arthur, they find Merlin who zaps them back to Far Far Away just like that. I felt that some parts were glanced over and didn't get the recognition needed. One part that I felt needed more time was when Fiona leads a group of princesses against the villians of the fairy tales.

Like I mentioned, this movie had its moments. Puss and Donkey really stole the show on this one. Even Pinnocio has his moment in the limelight, as did Captain Hook and the Ugly Stepsister. I was glad that the minor characters were able to shine through. But the only thing was there just wasn't as many jokes as I had hoped for.

However, I had two favorite parts in the movie. My first favorite part was when the princesses took charge and retaliated against the villians in the city. My second favorite part was when Prince Charming confronted Pinnocio about the location of Shrek and Fiona. I was impressed on how Pinnocio was able to talk himself out of this tight spot.

Prince Charming: You! You can't lie! Where is Shrek?

Pinocchio: Well, uh, I don't know where he's not.

Prince Charming: You don't know where Shrek is?

Pinocchio: On the contrary,

Prince Charming: So you do know where he is!

Pinocchio: I'm possibly more or less not definitely rejecting the idea that I undeniably

Prince Charming: Stop It!

Pinocchio: Do or do not know where he shouldn't probably be. If that indeed wasn't where he isn't!

All in all, it is just a fun movie to watch. I enjoyed watching it. It may not be as spectacular as the other two, but fans of Shrek will love this movie. It is fun for the kids especially, but even the parents will enjoy the happily after all after all.
