You might just shudder when you see the American remake of the Asian supernatural horror film "Shutter," starring Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor.

Joshua Jackson stars as Benjamin Shaw, a professional photographer with a unique ability to capture stunning photographs of fashion models. Benjamin marries a school teacher named Jane, played by Rachael Taylor, but cuts their honeymoon short due to a promising job opportunity in Tokyo, Japan for a fashion shoot. The newlyweds find themselves in a tragic accident that leaves them both distraught. While in Tokyo, the couple develops recent photographs and discovers ghostly images in the background. Suddenly Benjamin and Jane begin experiencing hallucinations that sparks an investigation into the supernatural. Lies and deceit are soon discovered that leave everyone involved in danger.

I have been anxiously awaiting the release of "Shutter" since I viewed the intense trailer a month ago. I was excited to see Joshua Jackson moving past his cable television days as Pacey on Dawson's Creek and going back to the big screen. I remember him as hockey playing Charlie from the 1992 classic "The Mighty Ducks." He also gave an incredible performance as Lucas in "The Skulls." I have to admit I was somewhat skeptical of Jackson's choice to star in another horror film, as I was not thrilled with his performance as Jake in "Cursed." My doubts of Jackson were quickly forgotten as he delivered a truly spectacular performance in "Shutter."

I was disappointed with Rachael Taylor's portrayal of Jane Shaw. I think she is a beautiful and talented actress, as she gave an impressive performance as Zoe in the horror film "See No Evil." I also vaguely recall her as Maggie in "Transformers." I just felt as if she didn't fit the part of Jane and there seemed to be very little chemistry between her and Jackson. I thought her performance was forced and over-the-top during most scenes. Her presence during the jumpy horror scenes was almost comedic and predictable. Maybe it was the script, but honestly if seems like Taylor didn't connect with her character.

I have to say the storyline reminded me quite a bit of "The Grudge" and "The Ring." I was anticipating something more original and unique, but overall am quite pleased. Definitely check out this movie if you enjoy supernatural horror flicks that will make you shutter with intensity.

I rate this movie a 4 out of 5. Prepare to be on the edge of your seat!
