Siblings Together Again

Here we go again , a meeting to talk about my mothers personal belongings. Since she has gone to the nursing home in January the house just sits with everything in it. My oldest brother owns the house but not belongings. So the first meeting was a disaster today we all met in the Library at the nursing home without spouses and mom. Well whats it going to be.

So I walk in and my youngest brother is sitting there 2 of my sisters are sitting there and no one is speaking. My oldest brother has not arrived, I break the ice with small chat about our families and what is going on .

My older brother arrives and we start talking. We actually talk as we used to. We tell each other how hard this is for all of us to see mom and her dementia. My one sister is her usual sarcastic self but nothing bad. My youngest brother just can't deal with this whole situation but eventually joined in with our conversation and agreed that we need to do something with personal items. So we settle on a date to start at the house.

Then I go get out mom and bring her in. My sister has brought food for everyone. I keep telling my mom that we have a surprise for her and she is happy to see all her kids in the same room and talking,no tears or bruises and having a little snack together. Then we get one of the workers to come in and take pictures of all of us together.

I am very happy with this meeting but the next venture is going into the house which holds so many memories and trying to go through everything. I will pray that it goes well. Probably a lot of tears will be shed. My parents always had a large garden and blueberry patch and I am going to get two bushes for memory of my parents and hope they will grow at my house.

This fall my family is also dealing with sale of an Aunt and Uncle's house and personal items since they had no children we have to deal with this. So we will be together again. My biggest fear is that the next time we are all together will be for her funeral and that is not good. I still want to be a family.

I am generally close with all my siblings but some of them cannot get along and I know that I cannot solve all the problems with my 5 brothers and sisters but I sure would like to . Its good I only have 2 kids to fight when we are gone.
