First of all you are led into the low lit Sicilian Oven Trattoria by very friendly waitresses and waiters. They actually open the door for you as they see you approach. The restaurant's ambiance is absolutely upscale reminiscent of a cozy, dark New York eatery. The wood is dark, the lighting is low, the decor is very Metropolitan Home magazine. It's tastefully done and creates a wonderful warm inviting atmosphere. Interesting blue lamps are on the walls.

To our right was a granite topped bar with a wall of bottles. There is a flat screen TV but not to obtrusive ad two more in the secondary room. Opposite that are the high tops. This gives you a casual hang out area to co ordinate with the bar. Further in are the tables and then to your left in what is another room with more quiet tables if you want privacy. When we first got there at 6:30 on a Friday night the place was on the empty side but they have only been opentwo weeks and have yet to have the grand opening. By the time we left the place was quite full.

The kitchen is open to your viewing behind a granite counter and flat layered fieldstone. There is a large area of stacked wood for the wood fired ovens. You can watch your meal being made if you so choose. This is all sparkling clean and inviting. It was not noisy.

The wait staff is very friendly, all dressed in black and very quick to accommodate your every need. I found the place quite cold and the waitress immediately suggested a nice cup of fresh made DeCaf coffee since I didn't want caffeinated tea. This was probably one of the best cups of coffee I'd ever had. She explained the coffee was direct from Italy. It was astoundingly good. I also ordered the Escaole and Bean soup at her suggestion. This was $6.00. They serve only a large bowl, no cup, so hubby and I shared this. It was earthy, delicious and nicely presented with toast points standing up in the bowl.

We ordered an onion mushroom pizza to share. The centerpiece on the table, a black wrought iron twist ,held plate settings for the table, the waitress flipped it over to the small end to hold an appetizer of fire roasted wings ($10.00) and then it was flipped to the wider end to hold the pizza ($14.00/Large size) after she removed the plates , of course.

The pizza was quite tasty and was more than enough for the both of us with several slices left over to take home. The pizzas are all made with fresh made dough, imported Italian tomatoes, Grande Mozzarella, Locatelli Romano cheese and EVOO (It actually says EVOO on the menu, cute). The crust is thin crust, which is what we prefer. It had a nice wood /fire roasted flavor. The onions were caramelized and the mushrooms were very flavorsome and earthy. There are traditional toppings and gourmet toppings. The gourmet toppings include Broccoli Rabe and Sausage, Steak Philly, Eggplant or Soppresata. Other gourmet pizza offerings include Calabrese, Margaherita, Blanco, Regiano with the Reggiano theme appearing in several other areas of the menu.

The wings were the only item I was not thrilled with. I'm just used to hot and spicy wings. If you don't think of Buffalo wings these are fine, otherwise they just taste like breaded wings. They are oven roasted as well and breaded in Italian bread crumbs and shaved Romano cheese. A small order is $10.00 and it was quite big (more leftovers) . A large order is $15.00. Hubby liked the wings a lot.

Salads are available that run between $9.00 and $13.00. The last being for an antipasto with Roasted Peppers, Olives, Prosciutto, fresh Mozzarella, Tomato and Soppresata. You can also get a Sicilian, or a Caprese Salad. The Sicilian offers you Walnuts, Olives, Roman tomatoes, Garbanzo Beans, Celery and Red Onion. You can also get Gorgonzola Cheese. This would be great for a lunch.

There are many Sicilian Specialties running from $6.00 to $12.00. You can get firecracker Calamari, Cervellata and Broccoli Rabe, Tuscan fries, Mussels Mario and more. Meatballs with Ricotta are $4.00 each a great idea if you are eating with the kids. Pastas are offered in Bolognese style $11.00, with meatballs, ala Vodka $12.00 or in a Pesto and Cream Sauce $13.00

They offer take out and are open 7 days a week. I would definitely recommend the Sicilian Oven. It's located in the Beacon Light Shopping Center. There is ample parking. The bathrooms appear to be wheelchair accessible and there is only one step at the entrance sidewalk and there are ramps in the lot further down.
