Side-by-Side Comparison of XM and Sirius

Evan Nash
You want the opportunity to get something new to listen to when it comes to radio in your car, at home, or even as you are on the move but don't know what satellite radio has to offer. For those who are unsure of the differences between XM Radio and Sirius Radio (or even those who didn't know there were differences at all) the following is a brief side-by-side comparison of each based on a few categories:

Price- This is by far the easiest of the comparison and should ease you to know that both have basically identical price plans for the service. They come in at around $10 to $12 per month based on what price plan or pay plan that you go with, so let your decision be based on content, not price.

Music Channels- While both services offer a great deal of music channels and good music on all of those channels, XM offers a larger selection of music channels. According to their information, both carriers provide 69 commercial-free music channels, though XM does offer more channels with commercials that may feature concerts or other live music.

Talk Channels- Both carriers come through with some big names as XM Radio rolls out Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelou for in-depth shows that cover the gamut of current events, but Sirius may offer more for your taste. The biggest name for Sirius is no secret, Howard Stern, but it doesn't stop there as they also have Martha Stewart and Bill Bradley for your listening pleasure.

Sports Channels- While XM Radio does do a nice job here with Major League Baseball play-by-play, Indy Car Racing, and the call of college football with the Big 10, Pac 10, and ACC, they don't offer what Sirius offers. Sirius ups them on college football with SEC, Big 12, Big East, and Ivy League games in addition to some Big 10 and Pac 10 games. In addition, Sirius blows XM away with all NFL games, NBA games, and NASCAR for those who love the racing not to mention NCAA March Madness!

News Channels- This is supposed to be a comparison that helps you make a decision, but there is little to no difference between the two when it comes to news channels. Both offer the standard CNN, Fox News, etc. so don't let this change your decision.

This will undoubtedly get you on the right track to picking the right satellite radio provider!
