Sights of Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope South Africa

Here Are Some Must See Places in and Around Cape Town South Africa

When visiting Cape Town South Africa visitors can enjoy the main attractions of the area. Here is a list of some of the great places, beautiful animals, and plants we saw on our recent visit to South Africa.

While traveling through the Cape of Good Hope visitors have the chance to see at least 250 different species of birds. "Bush Birds" tend to be a little scarce due to the scrubby nature of the fynbos vegetation. However, plants such as Proteas and Ericas attract the Sunbirds, Sugarbirds and many other species to their nectar making these plants a treasure trove for the bird watcher.

Large animals are rear to the Cape of Good Hope, but there are many small animals such as snakes, tortoises, and lizards. Some herds of Zebra, Eland and a few antelope can be found. Small mammals like the Rock Hyraz, Striped Mouse, Water Mongoose or Clawless Otter can be seen at times.

The area is a great vantage point for whale watching and many visitors enjoy viewing the Southern Right whale, which is seen often in False Bay the months of June to November. Some Humpback and Bryde's Whales along with Seals and Dolphins can also be seen.

The Cape of Good Hope is situation between the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans and is sometimes the victim of severe storms. These storms bring in ocean birds to the land and many different types of ocean life before and after the storms.

Many attractions such as the Buffelsfontein Visitor's Center a, Hiking trails, Tidal pools along Bordjiesrif and Buffels Bay, Monuments, Shipwrecks, the Old Lighthouse, Flying Dutchman Funicular and the Two Oceans Restaurant are just a few of the sites visitors to Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope South Africa can enjoy.

Boulders Bay just south of Simons Town is an adventure that allows visitors an up close view of the Jack Ass Penguins of South Africa. These have recently been renamed the African Penguin. These cute and almost cuddly sea birds were named Jack Ass Penguins because when they sing their bird song is a braying sound that is the same noise as a donkey.

At the end of a visitor's day trip around the Southern Tip of South Africa take the final trip to the top of Table Mountain or Signal Hill. The viewpoints at the top are some of the most magnificent views of the Oceans colliding and the City of Cape Town below. Photographers and Artists spend hours clicking photos or painting scenes of the South African city and landscape from these vantage points.

Wow, I never would have remembered all those animals and birds. And I never thought about whales in Africa. Wow, what a sight the Cape must have been.

When you looked out at the ocean, you saw where we sailed when we rounded the cape.

Really interesting. I hope you'll write about social conditions there. Friends of mine who were there a few years ago said things were awful.

They all look a little chilly in the photo! Fun times for all.
