There are many forms of transport, and so many cultural gems to explore nearby to Alcudia. Bikes, hikes, taxis, tours, bus rides, horse rides, boats, and historical train rides are all options of convenient travel. Here are a few ways to unearth the beauty of Alcudia Mallorca, Spain:
Town of Felanitx
Hire a bike and cycle out to the village of Felanitx nearby to D'Alcudia. Explore the countryside lined with sugar cubed country homes, participate in the morning market delights and if there's time ride the hill up to The Sanctuary of San Salvador and revisit the pilgrimage.
In this location you'll also witness the Castle Santueri built on the ruins of an Arab fortess south-east of Felanitx. This is one of the three remaining castles in Mallorca; the other two remaining is The King's Castle in Pollensa and the Moorish Castle of Alaro. The Castle of Alaro offers bedrooms, dining and an open bar year round.
The Historical Town of Alcudia
The lovely historical charm of the Roman capital of Alcudia is a few km's away from the resort style town of Port D'Alcudia. The historic town of Alcudia was later taken over by the Romans, renaming it Pollentia.
It was originally built during the 14th century by the Phoenicians, with soaring majestic walls surrounding the town. While there, be sure to tour the Roman ruins.
Markets and bartering are very popular in the town of Alcudia, and they are held each Tuesday and Sunday.
Wetland Nature Reserve
The S'Albufera Wetlands is a very important wetland to this area. It's about 5 km's south of Alcudia.
Take a bike ride to the reserve - there are hiking and cycling trails throughout the reserve, along with bird watching hide-outs. Birdwatchers come from all over the world, and S'Albufera is a welcome refuge from the crowds.
Caves of Campanet
Travel inland to explore the beauty of nearby Alcudia by cycling, or even hiking, to the Caves of Campanet. The caves are less than 20 minutes away from Alcudia and Pollensa.
Along the route, tour the XIII century Gothic church of Sant Miquel with architecture dated to the Baroque periods, take in the fragrance of fresh almond air and fresh water springs spread along the countryside farms. Try a visit the Town Hall of Campanet built in the 16th century.
After visiting the caves, there are more bicycling trails to the villages of Pollenca, Selva, and Inca to name a few if there is still time.
Unique Country Home and Garden with Art Gallery
Fundacion Yannicky Ben Jakober houses a collection of art work, part of it displayed with a unique under-water reservoir. The country house also features a public rose garden and sculpture trails for your leisure, all overlooking the Bay of Alcudia.
Mountain village of Lluc
The mountain village of Lluc is about 30 minutes away from Alcudia by car. Walk the well-worn pilgrimage 500 ft above sea level to the Monastery of Lluc.
The monastery is famous for the Saint Moreneta who is believed to fulfill prayers and wishes. It's also possible to stay the night once arriving at the monastery.
Historical Wooden Train Ride
Visit the town of Soller by boarding the vintage train from La Palma. The train ride covers a short 20 minute each way, but it will take over an hour traveling to the capital city from Alcudia.
This is a longer day trip which can be organized individually or as a tour. Touring the culture of Soller and La Palma won't disappoint.
