Toms River Township is located near the Atlantic Coast of New Jersey. It is approximately 55 miles East of Philadelphia and roughly 67 miles Southwest of New York City easily accessible from the Garden State Parkway via Exit 82, Toms River is a city with a splendid wealth of history.

River Lady Riverboat Tours

The River Lady, Riverboat Tour is a wonderful way to enjoy a historical sightseeing adventure while indulging in delectable culinary consumption. This historical tour cruises the Toms River and Barnegat Bay which are surrounded by beautiful gardens and unique homes that are said to date back to the turn of the century.

This Riverboat Tour is available from May through September. The average price for admission ranges between $10 - $40, depending on the age of the patron and the departure hour, advance ticket purchase is required. All prices are subject to NJ Sales Tax and there may be a $1 fuel surcharge per ticket.

The River Lady is also the venue of many special events. Because of its beautiful Victorian setting, this lovely riverboat combines romance and nostalgia to any distinct occasion.

Parking is available to the right of the riverboat and across the street. Though the parking lots are metered parking, it is only effective until 6:00pm.

A Walking Tour through the Village of Toms River Township

The walking tour of the Village of Toms River Township is delightful. It begins at the Toms River Township Municipal Building which is located at 33 Washington Street. The Town Hall building is open from 8:30am to 4:40pm. For more detailed information call, (732) 341-1000.

You begin by picking up a copy of the Historical Toms River Waterfront Walking Tour. This is a pamphlet that assists in a self-guided walking tour of historic homes that are along East Water Street and is available at the Municipal Building.

Directly next door you will visit the Bishop Memorial Library, which is located at 39 Washington Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. This wonderful library hosts a treasure trove of information about Toms River Township and Ocean County. There are genealogical materials as well. This tour is a splendid way to spend a day in history.

The Bishop Memorial Library's business hours are Monday through Saturday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm and Monday and Wednesday evenings, it is open until 9:00pm. You can contact the library via telephone by calling (732) 349-6200.

The Toms River Township Seaport Society Maritime Museum is also on the tour. It is located on the corner of Hooper Avenue and West Water Street. This is a working museum so don't be surprised if you find boats that are presently under restoration. These wonderful pieces of history are fun to view and discuss.

Cattus Island County Park

Cattus Island County Park is a wildlife preserve which spans just less than 500 acres, 497 acres to be exact and is home to the Cooper Environmental Center. The Center displays a collection of reptiles and provides presentations and programs for visitors of all ages on conservation and wildlife awareness.

The park is located at 1170 Cattus Island Boulevard, Toms River, NJ 08753. You can reach the reception desk via telephone by calling (732) 270-6960.

This wonderful park provides paths for cross country skiing, nature trails, overlooks and boardwalks. There is a children's playground and a cozy picnic area for socializing comfortably and enjoying a peaceful meal.

This park validates the beauty of unspoiled nature, which makes it the main attraction to visitors year after year. The park is environmentally sensitive and lay claim to miles of trails and beautiful vistas near the Silver Bay.

Cattus Island hosts a spectacular Butterfly Garden with glorious blooms adorned by fluttering wonders. Such as the Black Swallowtail, the Silver Spotted Skipper and the Red Admiral, just to name a few.

    I've always loved the boardwalk at Seaside Heights. Long Beach Island is a good place to hang out too. LOVE Toms River area!
