Sigma SS187 Duo-Fibre Brush

Layla A.
Now to review my favorite foundation brush! Since I first heard about duo-fibre stippling brushes, they seem to be taking the makeup world by storm! Everyone uses them for at least one thing, whether it is bronzer, blush, finishing powder, cream foundation, or my favorite, liquid foundation. Sigma actually re-did their SS187 brush last year to make the white bristles denser. Since, it is at least as dense if not more dense than the MAC 187.

HANDLE

As with all other Sigma brushes, the SS187 has a great, thick handle. It sits perfectly in the hand and looks very professional, the silver logo on the matte black paint. In no way does it feel like it will break, and I have dropped this brush, the ferule still perfectly on the brush. Since the handle is longer, in order to get maximum control, you have to hold it towards the top. Otherwise, the brush will go all over your face.

BRISTLES

Reviewing a brush with two kinds of bristles is unusual, but also a pleasure as they team up so well. The black ones are very smooth; however, they are not really used to apply the product on the face. When they redesigned the SS187, they made the white bristles denser, making the brush like a cloud on the face. They are extremely soft and silky, and are not scratchy in any way, shape, or form.

BUILD QUALITY

Because of the denser bristles, this brush has an excellent design score in my book. The ferule holds them all very well and the handle is great to work with. It cleans very well, though I sometimes have to re-shape it after it is dried. Overall, the build quality is just as good as any other Sigma brush.

APPLICATION

The duo-fibre is notorious for creating an airbrushed, flawless look. The white bristles store the product and disperse it over the face as you stipple it on. The bristles are not quite as soft on the face as they are on the hand, but they still feel amazing in application

FINAL OPINIONS

This is my favorite foundation brush ever! It applies any kind of face product flawlessly and makes my makeup look like I had a team or pros working on it all day. This brush is available at sigmamakeup.com in the Complete Brush Set and solo for $16! Considering the MAC one retails for $42, this is a steal! I can whole-heartedly say that this brush is better than the MAC 187, and I will continue to use it for my liquid foundation every day.
