Sigma SS194 Concealer Brush

Layla A.
Though it may not be the most hygienic way to apply concealer, I always use my fingers because I feel like it blends it easier and warms it up on my skin. That being said, SS194 is not my most used brush. Actually, if I use it ever, I use it for eyeshadow. So, I will be reviewing it for that use. In that category, it makes a decent shader brush. Since the bristles are so smooth, it sometimes cannot disperse color evenly. However, this is the absolutely perfect brush to apply cream eyeshadows and bases. It is especially good for MAC Paint Pots, NYX Jumbo Pencils, Revlon Cream Shadows, BeneFit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liners, and all of your other favorite bases.

HANDLE

The SS194 is a face brush, but the handle is not as large as a typical face brush's handle. However, for the size of the brush, it is a great handle. It has the matte black finish with the cute Sigma logo, and displays the shiny silver ferule, holding all of the bristles together perfectly.

BRISTLES

The bristles of the SS194 are tri-colored and very, very smooth, reminding me of a classic foundation brush. For this reason, it works well with creams instead of powders because the creams can actually stick to the bristles. They are very soft, and if I am not using the SS194 for eyeshadow bases, I use it for contouring the nose- it fits perfectly in all the nooks. This is because the top is tapered.

BUILD QUALITY

The ferule feels very nice, along with the handle, and the bristles are cut perfectly. The brush is not only built well for use, but it looks really, really good. It feels just as sturdy in the hand as any other MAC brush, and the long handle give you varying amounts of control.

APPLICATION

For applying cream products, there is no better brush for the job. It picks the color right up and layers it perfectly. It is not a good blending brush, so I recommend this just for patting on the product. However, the SS194 spreads it completely evenly in a nice layer.

FINAL OPINIONS

When I need a brush for my eyeshadow bases, this is my go-to brush. I absolutely love how well it dispenses the product and spreads it out. Though I do not use it for a concealer brush, it would probably make a perfect brush for any cream concealers. The SS194 is available in the Complete Brush Set on sigmamakeup.com, but is not currently sold by itself. I think this could be duped and outshined by the MAC 194/MAC 252, though for those with smaller eyes, this is probably a good option.
