Sigma SS239 Eyeshadow Brush

Layla A.
Of all of my shader brushes, the SS239 is my favorite, hands down. Whether it is the shape, density, or application, I have no idea, but it always does exactly what I want it to. The only other brush I have that is close to this one is the MAC 213, but that was it kinda of small, so I prefer this one. Honestly, this brush completely fits what I think of when I think of a shader brush. Maybe some would disagree, but I think the shape is perfect, the density is just how I like it, and it really packs on the product. But don't let me give away everything in the intro.

HANDLE

This is what also makes the SS239 my favorite shader brush- a good handle. It has the Sigma matte black finish and the adorable silver logo in the middle, making it look professional and user-friendly. It has a very good thickness and length, and will give you great control everywhere except for the bottom, but I don't know anyone that actually holds their brushes like that so, it shouldn't be an issue. It fits perfectly in the hand for an eye brush and has a nice rounded end like all other Sigma brushes.

BRISTLES

The bristles on this brush are medium brown, much like the MAC 213 and unlike the MAC 239. Not that that really matters, but I find brushes with brown/black hair easier to clean. I think the shape is what makes this shader brush so great. A lot of the shader brushes I have are longer rather than wider, and usually not as dense. I feel like all other brush companies should copy MAC & Sigma for the SS239 shape- it is really great. Plus, not everyone's eyelids are tall, but everyone's eyelids do have some width to them. The SS239 has a short, rounder shape that really picks up the product and packs it on the eye with ease. The hair on the SS239 is cloud soft/smooth, and it is very fluffy.

BUILD QUALITY

The ferule on this brush is really great and even with everyday use, is still completely in place. What I also like about this brush versus some other Sigma brushes is that it is cut perfectly. There are no weird indentations or jagged areas, and it looks very high-end in its cut. This brush has only shed one or two hairs since I got it, which is awesome. The density is also perfect, all of the bristles popping back into place. It is also fluffy enough that you can turn it on the top and define the crease, though I usually just use it for its amazing shading abilities. Unlike some other Sigma brushes, the SS239 does not get those stray hairs on the side that stick out in annoyance to the user. Really great build quality, people.

APPLICATION

When it comes down to it, what is more in important in a brush than the application? That's why we buy them, right? In application, this scores a prefect ten in my book. The density of this brush make it so easy to get color on the bristles and really pack it on. This is not a blending brush, so you really can't blend with it, but like I said earlier, it is so fluffy that you can turn it on the top and get color in the crease. This brush really works great with those crazy colors that can become more subtle if used with the wrong brush. This can make some loose powder when you grab product from an eyeshadow, but it is easily cleaned and highly worth it for the quality of this brush.

PRICE

The SS239 is sold individually on sigmamakeup.com for $9! Compared to its MAC counterpart at $24.50, this is a steal.

FINAL OPINIONS

As said earlier, this is hands down, my favorite shader brush. I love the handle, the bristles, the build quality, the softness, the density, the price, the ability to pack on so much color, and the fact that it really makes eyeshadow look flawless on your lids. I will probably be ordering a few more of these in the near future, as it is a really great brush to have around. I cannot recommend this brush enough.
