Heart attack or medically termed as coronary thrombosis, is a condition occurs due to lack of oxygen in the heart muscle itself.

There are some conditions where the blood vessels supplying the heart muscles get partially or completely blocked- called Coronary Atherosclerosis. The main reasons for this type of atherosclerosis are -

Overweight,

Smoking, intake of alcohol

Age more than 40 years

Lack of exercise,

Diet richer in fat,

Diabetes,

Hypertension (high blood pressure)

Insomnia,

Executive lifestyle,

Genetics.

Women- after her menopause.

There are hundreds of other causes. However, for a nonprofessional like you and me, this much knowledge is sufficient.

Keeping these in mind, we may discuss now the symptoms of heart attack.

Severe pain or discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts for more than 20 minutes. However, the pain is sometimes not so severe. Somebody may feel that someone has squeezed his chest.

Pain traditionally felt in the center of chest and radiating towards the left shoulder or hand. You may feel the pain even after taking some rest or normal analgesics (painkillers)

Feeling of nausea, vomiting, and/or general epigastric (upper middle abdomen) discomfort

Palpitation.

Excessive sweating.

Difficulty in intake of air or exhale.

Pain in the back side-upper part.

Generalized malaise- vague pain all over the body.

Yawning.

Sometimes the symptoms of a heart attack can be vague and mild, it is necessary to remember that heart attacks producing no symptoms or only mild symptoms can be just as fatal as of the other type.

It is seen that to often patients attribute their chest discomfort as indigestion, muscular pain or stress. But it is to be kept in mind that if prompt and effective treatment is not provided to the distressed, case fatality rate of heart attack is very much high.

Early warning signs of heart attack are critical for prompt recognition and treatment.
