Some of the most cautious people are taken by con-artists, both experienced and amateur. Carefulness will not always protect you from deception; however, knowing what to look for and what to avoid can steer you clear of an internet swindle.
Signs of an internet scam:
- Boasts the possibility of maximum results with little effort.
- Gives you a hyped description of it's benefits, claiming that you can become very successful without exposing any detail of the actual work required to obtain said benefits.
- Tries to lure you in with the promise of unrealistic compensation, often claiming that there is no experience needed.
- Will almost immediately ask for personal information, like social security numbers, bank account numbers, and credit card numbers.
- Many work from home scams ask for your money in exchange for useful information. Most sound businesses will not charge you to work for them. Yes, there are legitimate business ventures that require an initial investments, but they are not mysterious in nature.
- Some scammers state that their product is only available for a limited time. This encourages you to act impulsively, urging you to react without thinking.
- Does not give any contact information, or gives false contact information. This is definitely something that should be avoided.
In most cases, there is no such thing as something for nothing. True occurrences of this nature are very rare. You know the phrase "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is"?. I can not stress how true these words are.
Above all else, listen to your common sense, and ignore the hype.
