Signs to Look for in Diabetes

Hawaiihill
Signs of diabetes are; headaches, loss of feeling in your lower extremities (from elbows to hands or knees to feet). Slow at healing, an example would be, after a tooth is pulled. Another sign is, your tongue turning white or having sore throats. A Dr. might say it's hygiene and allergies. It could be a possible yeast infection, in your throat. A black tongue is more susceptible after chewing a pepto bismuth tablet, along with an extreme dry mouth. Extreme thirst is a major sign, it's a thirst you can't cure. If you do have a constant thirst that you can not quench you have an immediate need to tell the Dr. to check your sugar. Sleeping a lot, deep naps, especially within an hour after eating.(that's because your sugar is rising) Dr's. may say you have sleep apnea. More symptoms are; Problems breathing, lightheadedness. Symptoms of IBS..

Dr.s don't always put the sign of diabetes together. They just don't catch it soon enough. You may have one sign and visit your Dr., and he treats the symptom. Within a week to months your problem will continue and possibly inherit a new sign of diabetes. Each problem may be diagnosed separately and treated differently. You may get some relief but it's not permanent, until you are diagnosed and treated for diabetes. Finally you may feel like you are bothering the Dr. and that he thinks your a hypochondriac. You may even have extensive tests for sleep apnea. A lot of the time you have to diagnose yourself. Have the Dr. do a quick sugar test, even if he's doing a HBA1c, which is a 3 month test. You have to wait for the results of a HBA1c. Diabetes is an immediate problem, you need help now. They have to be told to do a finger prick test.

If you are told that you are diabetic don't be scared, there is a wealth of information. One of the best places to visit on line is the American Diabetes Association. They have an online virtual store that helps you learn to shop for your food. ADA also has chat rooms, with people there to help. Kroger grocery stores has a dietitian that gives tours of the store and helps people to learn to read labels. One of my favorite places was the Diabetes center in my town. The diabetes center not only teaches the basics about food, but they talk about your medicine also. They will even have Dr's. come in and talk. The more you know the better you will feel.

By learning all you can, you will learn that you don't have to starve when you are diagnosed with diabetes. Now days you don't even need shots and many can get their sugar under control to where they don't need meds. So don't ignore the problems. Make the headaches, numbness and all the other symptoms go away by taking care of yourself.
