Getting a good night's sleep is essential to good health. Sleep restores your body. It gives you renewed energy. It clears your mind. A bed mattress that's too hard can be like sleeping on a wooden board. A mattress that's too soft is no better. It won't properly support your body so you can be comfortable. If you suspect that your bed mattress is too soft, check these signs to find out if it's time to shop for a new one:
1. You Toss and Turn...
If you find yourself tossing and turning in an effort to find a comfortable position, your mattress may be too soft. If it doesn't support your spine adequately, you can't lie in a natural position, and your muscles can't relax so you can get to sleep. The right mattress for you keeps your spine in the same position as when you're standing up.
2. Back Pains
If you feel back pain, and it gets worse when you're in bed at night, that's another sign your mattress is too soft. If you wake up in the morning with an aching back, your bed is more than likely the culprit.
3. It's Difficult to Move...
If you find it hard to change positions, roll over, or get out of bed, you'll probably sleep better on a firmer mattress. A mattress that's too soft can wrap itself around your body making it a struggle to move. It can also cause your body to retain heat and sweat more than normal.
4. Sleeping Away From Home Is Better
If you spend a night in someone's guest room or in a hotel, and you find that you slept like a baby, your mattress may be too soft. Compare your mattress at home with the one you slept on while you were away.
5. Test Your Bed Mattress
Lie down on your mattress on your back. Try to slide a hand under the small part of your back. If you can't, or if there's little room between, your mattress is too soft. It's not providing proper support for your back, spine, and entire body.
