I admit it'"I am a grown woman, and I love Facebook. Many other folks my age like it (no pun intended) as well, but they won't dare to admit that publicly, for reasons unbeknownst to me. Most times when I hear people talk about the site that has over 750 million active users that spend over 700 billion minutes per month on the site, it is usually not in the best way. But Facebook can't be all bad. After all, just look at those user statistics!
There are a few active Facebook users, who log into the site almost daily, but never have anything good to say about it. I call these folks "Facebook Snobs." Here's how to determine if you're one.
While scrolling through your News Feed, you criticize at least 3 of your friends' status updates.
Sure, not everyone will have a witty and interesting update on "What's Happening?" But is it really necessary to roll your eyes and grit your teeth because one of your girlfriends just randomly posted that she was headed to the park to have lunch and catch up on the latest articles in this month's issue of Self? This is the first sign that you might be snobbish.
You read, but never participate (by way of comment or "Like") anyone's status/link/picture/video/etc.
Did you forget that Facebook is a social network? The whole point of people posting random pieces of information and media is to generate conversation among others'"their friends. However, this conversation shouldn't just be limited to within your head. Share your (positive) thoughts with person who posted!
You deactivate your Chat feature
Let me get this right -- you're on Facebook, but you really don't want to have a real-time conversation with other people? Ever? Really? I think the snobbiness in this situation is pretty much self-explanatory.
You never post any updates on your own
I have a friend who occasionally makes a comment on my status updates. However, whenever I stop by her page, the last posting was over a month ago! Her excuse? "Girl -- I don't have time to post updates -- " Yet, she has time to occasionally make a comment on the status of others. Ugh -- there's nothing worse!
So -- there you have it. While there are many other signs that you might be on the not-so-social side of Facebook, if you do at least two of the things listed above, consider yourself a snob. Just realize'"your friends want to hear more from you!
