Signs You Should Switch Medications

Use prescription drugs? Know the signs you should switch off of one and go onto another medication. By doing so, you can save yourself (and body) a lot of unnecessary strain. Also, you will be able to keep an ailment or disease under better control.

1- your side effects are severe.
If your medication causes severe side effects like hives (all over your body) or heart palpitations, talk to your doctor. Taking a medication that lowers your quality of life or incapacitates you is worse than having the sickness. Experiment with other drugs for the same condition with mild side effects that you can handle easily.

2- your medication is on recall.
A sure sign you should switch medications is that the drug you take is on recall. The word recall is just a fancy way of saying a product has a fault. No matter how well your medication works, you need to change to something else and dispose of the remaining pills.

3- you develop an intolerance.
The human body is an amazing machine. Overtime, it can adapt to almost anything. As a result, long-term use of certain types of drugs often results in a loss of their effects. If this sounds familiar, make an appointment with your doctor. He will either up your dose or turn you onto a new drug.

4- your overall lifestyle is better.
With certain conditions, like type 2 diabetes, you may get better with just a change of lifestyle. So, a sign you should switch medications is that you are much healthier than when you first started on the medication. If you lost over fifty pounds, stopped smoking or resigned to a less stressful lifestyle, you can go on a different drug of a lower strength. In some cases, you might not need any medication at all.

5- you're getting addicted to the drug.
Addiction to prescription medication is an epidemic in America. One reason why this problem is so prevalent is that users often ignore the danger signs. If you become abusive or erratic when you can't get a certain drug, you may be developing a problem. Even in chronic situations, people can usually skip using their medication for one day without severe consequences. So, check yourself. Get on a different drug that has less of a hold on you.

These five signs are ones that indicate you need switch medications. Abide by them and avoid taking anything that hurts you. Remember, you want the drugs your doctor prescribes for you to do their job in a way that boosts your health and helps you enjoy a long, prosperous life.
