The children sleep together on a mattress on the floor
Their single mother crying as she watches from the door
Their little bodies shaking under blankets that are thin
Waiting for the sunlight to let some heat back in
The winter's long
The pay is lame
The father's gone
But no-one hears the silent scream of pain
