Silent Warfare

Susan Elliott
How many times?

You sit on the porch
staring off into the crooked tree line
internalizing.

Not daring to
vocalize your shackles,
fearing if spoken, things would be worse.

Alone in the cold,
or baking in the sun
sitting motionless, same silent spot
allowing the weight of the world to flatten you.
