Silken White Ribbon

April Higney
I kept you close to me,

the skies so blue with beautiful breeze.

A silken white ribbon drifting,

kept you close to me.

I never wanted to let you go.

I laughed and chased you through the tall green grass,

barefoot, carefree,

you were a sweet part of me.

Untying the knot,

an unsteady grasp I had on you,

you started to drift away.

I jumped and ran chasing behind you,

just out of reach.

I watched you move deep into the cascading white,

the endless blue.

A tear fell, as you disappeared,

and I could no longer see the silken white ribbon

shimmering in the wind.

You were gone,

my childhood friend,

so I quietly inflated another red balloon.

Lovely, touching. I lost my childhood friend, too. Your poem brught him back for just awhile.
