1) The famous singing fish. Who ever heard of a singing fish? I am sure we have all seen this fish. He is a plastic fish model, mounted on a wooden plaque, so you can proudly display him in your den. When you push the button, he freakily turns his head and sings a song to you. When your recipient opens the gift, they are going to politely laugh, but I bet when you visit their home, the singing fish is no where to be seen.
3) These were popular a few years ago. Everyone was buying the sports games that were hand held and realistic. For example, my Mother bought my oldest son, a fishing game. He sat on the couch on Christmas morning, turning the reel on the game, and when the computer fish bite, by shaking the game system, he was to pull back on the handle. My middle son got a baseball game, and my Father received a tennis game. We have a picture of all three playing their games, on the couch. I hate to report, but I haven't seen any of these games since. It did make for a nice Christmas picture though.
3) A Chia Pet. OK, I admit, I actually bought my Father one for Christmas one year. My reasoning was that he liked to garden, so would enjoy growing grass hair on a clay container. Who every thought this one up? My Father politely commented on what and original gifts it was, and I have never seen it since.
4) A laser hair remover. I have been smart enough never to buy this for anyone, but I have a friend who received one last year. As she stated, " Removing body hair gets a bit personal. " Do you say, thanks or I didn't know I had that much hair? Some things are better left to individuals to buy for themselves.
5) I"m not even sure what you call this gift. I am sure everyone has seen the balls that hit each other , hanging from a string, and they hit the next ball, and so on. I have seen them a lot at store's like Spencers. I actually received one a few years back from an office mate. After watching the balls hit each other a few times, what are you suppose to do with the gift? It collects dust, and gets in the way. Not to mention if your prone do dozing off at work, it could hypnotize you.
The bottom line is, always be polite to your gift giver, even if the gift is silly and ridiculous. Just be sure and don't' buy the same silly gifts for someone else in the future. People can learn from the silly gifts they get, and not make the same mistake with their loved ones.
