Silly Halloween Movies for Kids

Age-appropriate Films for the Smaller Children

Tonya Hillukka

Some kids might think it is fun to watch spooky movies around Halloween, but others are too easily scared during this time of year. While many older kids and adults enjoy watching suspenseful and gory films, small children should be watching something more age-appropriate. This doesn't mean they cannot be included in the holiday fun, though. Instead, they might be more interested in watching a silly Halloween movie geared toward kids their age.

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown (1966) - Halloween in Peanuts land is full of adventure. Charlie Brown is invited to a costume party, Snoopy searches for the elusive Red Baron and Linus prepares for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin.

Garfield's Halloween Adventure (1985) - When Garfield learns that today is Halloween, he and Odie dress up as a pair of Pirates in search of loot. Their night is a success...until they come across the ghosts of real Pirates.

Madeline's Halloween Spooktacular
(1993) - In these two episodes, the little French schoolgirl visits some friends in New York to celebrate Halloween. When Madeline's silly story about ants invading New York is accidentally broadcasted over the radio, the entire city begins to panic.

Spongebob Squarepants Halloween
(1999) - These five episodes make up a full hour of silly and spooky Spongebob antics.

Winnie the Pooh Spookable Pooh (2000) - Tigger turns Piglet's not-so-spooky story into a definitely spooky story, in which Dr. Von Piglet creates the monster, Franken Pooh.

Monsters, Inc. (2001) - It's the Monsters' job to frighten kids and make them scream -- but when an unafraid little girl follows Mike and Sully back into the monster world, they are exiled to her universe.

Spookley the Square Pumpkin (2004) - A pumpkin named Spookley is tormented by the other pumpkins because of his square shape; they soon learn that his unusual shape has its advantages, though.

Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005) - Tigger causes all kinds of mayhem, once again, with his story of the Gobloon, a creature that will grant its captor one wish.

Clifford's Big Halloween (2009) - Clifford the big, red dog can always find fun wherever he goes; in one of these eight episodes, Clifford frightens the town when he becomes entangled in a white sheet and the townspeople think they are being haunted by a ghost dog.
