Some of the tests are timed which shows the employer how much work you can get done accurately under the stress of time limit. They will not only see how many questions you got correct, but also how many you answered in the time limit allotted. The testing can be on memory, simple mathematics, reasoning, troubleshooting questions to see how you can reason and solve problems quickly, and logic.
Some of the pre testing is how you feel on certain things. They may give you a scenario and see how you answer this usually is to see how you would react in situations if you are in management or if issues would arise with your coworkers and shows how you would handle everyday problems. The other questions may be how many best friends you have. Most people only have a few best friends, but know many people. You really don't want to answer this with a high number.
Some have testing about the logic tests we had in school, like if glove is to hand like hat is to ... then give you multiple choice answers. This is just to see how you do with relationship items. Can you reason and troubleshoot things out in your head. Since some of these are being timed tests, how quickly can you reason and make quick accurate decisions.
What if they would ask the question, what would you do if you won the lottery? While you may want to write down "quit my job immediately". This wouldn't be a good answer. They are looking for an answer of investing it for the future, giving some to charity. They want to know that you plan for the future, and are dependable. Even though you may quit your job if you won the lottery don't put it down for testing purposes.
The other test questions that are most tests are the yes/no questions or the True/False questions. These are usually the same questions asked over the test but in different phrases, you have to be honest about these questions and really read them carefully because of the wording.
While each company have different tests for their potential employees almost all are giving tests anymore. Sometimes these tests will determine if you get the job or not. Since they don't give you study guides or anything before the tests you don't know what to expect or study for. But you can be positive that all the questions that they ask you are there for a reason, and even though the question may seem innocent, it's measured against something.
