Silly Red Bird

Harold Dean Sink

Fly and pounce as much as you want.
You can't come in because of the glass.
I see you every morning.
"Are you seeing your reflection?" I ask.
Silly red bird, it won't talk back.

Week after week you still do the same.
Why don't you get it?
I am not letting you in.

But the silly red bird still bangs
Its head at the window
As if he wants in.

Not ever will I let you in,
But if you look hard enough
You will find food and water
Out in the backyard.

Now year after year
That silly red bird comes back.
Could be his offspring,
But are all cardinals like that?

Yes we had a male cardinal do that one spring--sees the reflection of a "competitor" in the galss and, being not far from the nest, assaults the "intruder"--ours spilled his own blood on the glass before his wife told him to "Cool it!"LOL--but he did stop before he gave himself a subdural hematoma!!!

I love cardinals, and we have several living in our backyard. But they haven't been banging into the windows here. You must have the stupid ones.
