To Make Silver Leaf Christmas Ornaments You Will Need:
Silk Leaves
Hammer metal silver paint
Newspaper
Floral wire
Ribbon
Scissors
To get started you want to lay out some newspaper on a flat work surface. It really I best to work with spray paint outside if at all possible, since it has a tendency to coat anything in the area.
Now, go ahead and lay out al of your silk leaves on the table. Take each one apart and leave it only as he leaf and the stem.
Now, use the Krylon Hammered Metal Spray painting silver to coat the side of the leave that is exposed. Apply one layer, let that dry, ten add another coat. Do this until the leaf looks like it is metal.
Tip: Try to not soak the leaf. This will cause the leaf to loose shape and stick to the newspaper.
Once the leaf dries completely, turn it over. You want to repeat the whole process on the back side of the leaf.
Now, let the metal leaves dry completely.
By the way, Krylon makes a hammered gold paint as well, which would also work. A nice spray on stone look would also work well. This would be a fun look too!
Now, once the leaf has dried completely you want to take a silver paint pen and start adding some detail This of course is options, but by using variety of silver paints, you add dimensional and a great real metal look to the leaf ornament.
Another option to add a more metal look to your silver leaf ornament is to use a pint brush and dry brush on a metallic silver paint. Go easy and try to dry brush only catching he texture of the leaf.
Once anything has dried you want to use a ribbon to tie onto the stem of the metal leaf ornament to hang it on your Christmas tree. Try using a red ribbon. Cut one piece about six inches tall. Fold it in half to make a loop and glue each end onto the stem of the leaf.
Now, use another piece of red ribbon and tie a bow over the tow glued on ends.
You are finished!
