Similac infant formula has been recalled by Abbott Laboratories. According to reports, Similac infant powdered formula may contain beetles or parts of beetles or beetle larvae.

The liquid formulas labeled as Similac are considered safe. The powdered Similac that contains parts of beetles or possibly beetle larvae could cause stomach aches and digestion problems.

The Abbott Laboratories Similac infant formula in question was distributed throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and in parts of the Caribbean. Anyone with this infant formula should return it to the place of purchase.

An internal inspection found there is the possibility that some of the Similac infant formula may contain the reported beetles, beetle parts or the beetle larvae. These insect parts were found in one section of the area where the Similac infant formula in handled. Those in the Charlotte area who have used the recalled Similac and are concerned about what their child ingested may want to call or visit the Mecklenburg County Health Department for assurance.

Anyone with the Similac infant formula that has been recalled should consult with a physician if their child has been ill. Ingesting the beetle parts or beetle larvae might cause intestinal discomfort. The beetle parts or larvae could cause gastrointestinal irritation.

According to reports the Similac powdered formula recall includes only the following:
