Simon Cowell Engaged to Be Married

Well, who woulda-thunk-it? According to Fox News, everybody's favorite curmudgeon, American Idol co-creator and acerbic judge, Simon Cowell, is reportedly engaged to be married. Since there have been numerous stories written about the engagement and none refuting it, I think it would be safe to say it is true.

The lovely lady in question is Afghani born, Mezhgan Hussainy, a make-up artist who also works for American Idol. Apparently, Mezhgan and Simon have been friends for years and only recently began dating after Simon's recent break-up with long time girlfriend, Terri Seymour.

Simon Cowell has been unapologetic over his lack of desire to marry and have children, often saying that he would make a horrible husband. Indeed, this was rumored to have been at the core of his break-up with Ms. Seymour, who wanted very much to settle down with Simon and have children.

Simon Cowell has been linked with many beautiful women over the years and none have been able to snag him, so it's completely intriguing and no less fascinating that Mezhgan Hussainy has been able to do so in less than one year of dating.

Though Simon often comes off as calloused and unkind when he rakes potential American Idol hopefuls over the coals without mercy, he also displays a very caring and sensitive side at times, as well. Who could forget the compassion and tenderness he showed towards this seasons very vulnerable, Vanessa Wolfe, from Vonore, Tennessee, who confessed on national television she had never flown on an airplane or been out of the small town of Vonore, in her entire life.

Whether Simon actually believed Vanessa stood a chance in the singing competition or not, we will never know. But, he certainly showed his humanity when he allowed her to pass through to Hollywood week, in spite of her very shaky audition, when he has refused flatly, other contestants who were much better singers. It's been that type of sweet and sour combination, coupled with Simon's unabashed political incorrectness and blunt, outspoken nature that has endeared millions to him, myself included.

Having spent years in the entertainment industry, Simon Cowell has a keen eye for talent and an uncanny knack for plugging into the zeitgeist of popular culture. His company, S-Records, released several novelty recordings for the World Wrestling Federation, Teletubbies, and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. How Cowell was able to foresee how lucrative these television shows would become, almost defies imagination. Yet, they are but a few of the successes Simon Cowell can add to his long and savvy business resume.

On the pop music front, it was Simon Cowell who first saw the talent in multi-platinum selling artist, Leona Lewis, the all male singing group, II Divo and more recently, Scottish, singing sensation, Susan Boyle.

Those close to Simon Cowell say he has a twinkle in his eye and a spring in his step since his engagement to Mezhgan Hussainy. If recent photos taken of the two are any indication of his change of heart toward marriage and perhaps even children, Cowell certainly seems to be ready to take that leap. He's definitely not trying to hide his obvious affection and feelings for Ms. Hussainy, or the very lovely ring he apparently has purchased for her as well, when they are out in public.

I've always believed that underneath Simon Cowell's prickly exterior was a very tender hearted man just waiting for the right person to come along and ignite his passions. It seems that Mezhgan Hussainy has done just that. If Simon's ability to pick the next big global sensation translates into his personal life, I would be willing to bet that his relationship with Ms. Hussainy will be a rousing success as well.
