Simon Cowell Leaving "American Idol" to Start New Show

Is it Really All that Unexpected?

When TMZ reported yesterday that Simon Cowell would be leaving "America Idol" after this season, it left many viewers wondering what is in store for the show.

What would the future hold for "American Idol" without Simon Cowell?

The news might have come as a bit of a surprise to many. Simon has been a major component of the show since the beginning.

Both loved and hated, Simon has brought a distinct flavor to the show that cannot be duplicated with his special brand of snarky comments and intimidating demeanor.

However, after many years of doing the same, Simon has decided to start a new show. It wouldn't be expected that he would want to be a judge on "American Idol" until he is old and gray.

It is totally conceivable that Simon would eventually grow bored of the same old routine every year and want to move on to new projects.

Is this really all that surprising?

It is human nature to want to have variety in life. Most people don't want to have the same routine day in and day out for the rest of their lives.

Simon, no doubt, will both be praised and criticized for the decision to start a new show on the same network, but for those that are fans of Simon Cowell, at least he will not vanishing into thin air.

Will this be the end of "American Idol?"

As long as there are people out there looking to break into the music industry and be the next star, chances are, "American Idol" will be here to stay.

Over the years, many of the winners of "American Idol," and even some that did not win, have gone on to live their dream of being a singer. If it wasn't for "American Idol," they may not ever have had the opportunity to realize their dream.

Simon or no Simon, people will continue to try out for the show, no matter who sits on the judges panel.

What better exposure than to try out for "American Idol" and showcase their talent on television for the world to see?

It is the people watching the show, the viewers, who actually vote for their favorite contestants and eventually choose a winner.

"American Idol" is a favorite past-time for many people and should continue to entertain viewers and give aspiring singers a great venue to showcase their talents, for many years to come.

I agreed with Elle, and not really looking forward the the next season of Idol so much, without simon it won't be the same.

Notice he is rather disconnected this year.. and a little short spoken.

When Simon leaves... I won't be watching it anymore. He's the only reason I watch it to begin with. If I need updates on my shows.... I now know where to come. lol

I wondered why she's a judge as well. I thought the judges needed to at least be from the music industry....

I watched the premier of this year's American Idol. Same old thing. And when Simon leaves, the show will become hugely boring. We'll see what Ellen can do, but I still can't figure out why she's a judge.
