Simple Avocado Recipes

The avocado is one of my favorite fruits. I find it so delicious. Though the food is high in fat and somewhat high in calories; the fat that it is very high in is the good kind. In fact you need a good amount of this fat to stay healthy. This fat has been known to literally cause a drop in bad cholesterol when eaten regularly. There are many people that associate avocado eating with restaurants and food eaten out. This is actually how I started eating avocados. I'd never tasted one growing up and began to eat them and love them when I got them from restaurants and food places. Then I wanted to start buying them for myself; but didn't know how to pick one that was good to eat. I later learned the best way to choose an avocado is by determining when you want to eat it. If you want to eat it later that afternoon; then you want to buy one that is firm but not soft. You should be able to press the meat inside; but it shouldn't be too mushy. The later you want to eat the avocado, the firmer it should be. Like if you want to eat it the next day; a little firmer previously described. If you want to eat it a week or so from the day you buy it, then you should buy one that is what I call hard firm. It shouldn't be rock hard because that one won't be ready for 2 or 3 weeks. But, it should be pretty darn hard.

Next a lot of avocado preparations associated with avocado's in my mind were restaurant like and things that I couldn't reproduce cheaply in my mind. For example, I enjoyed avocado rolls and California rolls at sushi places; avocado's in restaurant type salads like Cobb and restaurant signature salads. I also enjoyed it in sandwiches at places like Panera etc. But I felt confused about bringing this sort of flavor home.

Then finally one day I just ate it and found if anything it only really needed for me lemon juice, salt and pepper; but I honestly liked it plain as well. It didn't need fancy dressings or a million ingredients around it to be delicious. It just was good to me. So from that most basic of beginnings; I feel that the most simple preparations for avocado are just as good as the ones you will find in your local restaurant at least flavor wise. The presentation might not be as beautiful, but that's alright.

Like I said lemon juice, salt and pepper are quick and I eat it this way all the time. Sometimes I'll add a little Italian seasoning or fresh herbs like basil. I like this kick sometimes. An avocado sandwich can be this simple as well. It doesn't have to have a million ingredients. It can just have avocado, tomato, fresh mozzarella, and a few basil leaves. Or it can just have avocado, Italian dressing and tomato. Just a few ingredients and your favorite bread are really all you need.

Another way to eat avocados that is very simple is to play up the the creaminess of them with sweeter things. You can add sugar and cream or soy milk and enjoy them like more of a dessert type of thing. You can also turn them into a smoothie with soy milk and sugar. Now this is a heavy drink and too much should not be drunk. But, it's okay sometimes.

Last but not least; guacamole doesn't have to be an involved process. Mush or blend the avocado, chopped tomatoes, some lemon juice, salt pepper, your favorite spices (store chipotle blends work well) and if you like chopped red onions and you're good to go.
