Simple Bluefin Tuna Recipes

Bluefin tuna are one of the largest tunas, a huge fish that is found in many oceans of the world. Many bluefin caught in the US are imported to Japan. In the Carolinas there is a winter fishery for them. Bluefin tuna are a highly regulated species and both recreational and commercial fishermen must obey strict laws.

Simple Grilled Tuna

4 large bluefin tuna steaks
½ bottle Italian dressing
½ bottle steak sauce
black pepper

Mix dressing and sauce, stir. Marinate tuna steaks for 2 hours in dressing and sauce mix. Sprinkle black pepper on steaks. Grill over hot coals for six minutes or until tuna is done, flipping once.

Oriental Tuna Steaks

6 six-ounce tuna steaks, about 1-inch thick
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 1/2 cups orange juice
2 tablespoons lime juice
3/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon Asian sesame oil
1/3 cup chopped gingerroot
3 tablespoons olive oil

In a large saucepan combine citrus juices, soy sauce, vinegar, oil, and gingerroot. Simmer 15 minutes. Strain sauce into a bowl. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large non-stick skillet, heat oil over med high heat until hot but not smoking. Coat 2 tuna steaks with sesame seeds and sear 1 minute on each side, transferring to a baking sheet. Coat and sear remaining 4 tuna steaks in batches in same manner. Place tuna in preheated oven and cook for 3 minutes. Cut each tuna steak into 4 slices and arrange slices, cut side up on plates. Pour sauce around tuna on each plate. Serve 6.

Grilled Tuna Teriyaki

bluefin tuna steaks
teriyaki sauce
soy sauce
olive oil
honey
onion
fresh garlic
fresh ginger

Amount of marinade is dependent on how many tuna steaks you have. Use 1 part teriyaki sauce, ¾ part soy sauce, ¼ part olive oil, and ¼ part honey. Add diced onion, fresh garlic and fresh ginger to taste. Grill steaks over hot coals about six minutes, flipping once.

Simplest Ever Tuna Steaks

bluefin tuna steaks
salt and pepper
melted butter

Salt and pepper bluefin tuna steaks. Grill them rare or med-rare over hot coals. Pour melted butter over steaks and serve.

    Far from being 'highly regulated', blue fin tuna are being fished to extinction with trawlers competing to find the last stocks alive, with possibly two years of stocks left before they go the way of the dodo and the passenger pigeon. Do a little research on google if you don't believe me.
