The procedure for performing this exercise is very simple. The individual has to sit on the ground on mat in cross legged position, keeping the posture straight and erect. Place both the hands on the chest in the lungs area. Start breathing rapidly through both the nostrils at a rate of around 36 breaths per minute. Make sure that your chest goes up while inhaling and goes down while exhaling. The other parts of your body should not move. The entire breathing cycle must be restricted to the chest and lungs area only. If it becomes difficult to maintain the suggested breathing rate of 36 breaths per minute, try to perform this exercise by playing some musical rhythm. Such musical CDS are easily available in the market. This exercise must be practiced for only one minute in the beginning for the period of around two to three weeks. Once the individual is comfortable with one minute duration, time duration can be increased by around half a minute every month till you reach 3 minutes. It may be noted that this time duration should not be extended beyond three minutes in any case. It would be best to perform this breathing exercise during early morning hours with your stomach fully empty and after completing all your morning rituals.
There are mainly two types of benefits obtained from this breathing exercise, physical and emotional. The physical benefits are mainly related to lungs and heart area. The blockage of lungs that has occurred over a period of years gets removed by this exercise. This results in to free flow of blood and air though the lungs, which increase the oxygen level in the blood. The asthma patients are also benefited tremendously by this exercise. This exercise also cures heart diseases like weak heart, blocked arteries, and malfunctioning of the valves. It also regulates the flow of blood through all the compartments of heart. As a result, the proper blood supply is maintained in whole of your body. This improves the overall energy level of the body and increases body immunity to various diseases. Over and above these physical benefits, there are many emotional benefits also obtained through this simple exercise. As the chest/lungs area is the area of love as well as an ego, the person is able to love all the people of the world. The feelings of revenge, ego, and self importance would vanish slowly over a period of around one month. This exercise also keeps us in balanced condition during all the ups and downs of our life.
In view of all the benefits listed above, I would request all my AC friends and readers to start practicing this simple breathing exercise by investing only around two to three minutes per day. If any of my readers have any doubts or questions on this, they all are free to contact me.
