None of these homemade remedies are a substitute for proper medical care. Always consult your doctor before and after a treatment. If pain is severe contact a health professional immediately.

Constipation

Take an over the counter fiber supplement or something with methylcellulose or psyllium seeds. Fiberall or Metamucil work well.

Eat foods that are high in fiber. Combine those foods with plenty of fluids. Fiber helps make body waste move. There are 2 types of fiber; insoluble fiber and soluble fiber. Combined with fluids both types will help to clear out body waste.

Try taking an over the counter laxative such as Correctol if constipation is extreme. Always check with your doctor first.

Diarrhea

Avoid foods that are causing diarrhea. If you do not know what food is causing the symptoms then eliminate things 1 at a time adding it back gradually. Most people find the following foods to be a cause to their diarrhea; bacon, sausage, oils, butter, deep-fried foods, citrus fruit or other foods high in acid, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, spicy foods, apples, beans, and broccoli.

Avoid lactose if it seems to worsen the diarrhea symptoms.

Sugarless candy and gum usually contains sorbital as an artificial sweetener. Try to stay away from sorbital because it can make your symptoms worse.

Eat more starches; bread, potatoes, pasta, and rice.

Try an over the counter diarrhea medication such as Imodium. Contact your doctor before taking any medications.

Stress

Stress can cause an upset stomach in many people. Keep a record of life events that are happening when you have stomach symptoms. This will help to identify any correlation with stress and your stomach.

Exercise can help to reduce stress and tension. Go for a walk, ride a bike, jog around the block a few times, or go swimming to help stress levels.

Nausea and Vomiting

Small sips of a rehydration drink or water can be drank after stopping all food intake for a couple hours.

For the next day only drink clear liquids with no carbonation. Remember to keep your fluids up and do not get dehydrated.

Lay down in bed or on the couch. Rest until your stomach is feeling better.

When your stomach begins to feel better try adding clear soups, additional liquids, and other mild foods to your diet 1 at a time.

Menstrual Cramps

Exercise, exercise, exercise on a regular basis to help decrease cramps each month.

Instead of acetaminophen or aspirin take Ibuprofen or Aleve before your period starts or when symptoms begin.

Use sanitary napkins instead of tampons.

Drink herbal teas like mint and chamomile. These may help tense muscles and anxious moods.

Use hot water bottles, hot baths, or a heating pad to alleviate cramping and relax muscles.
