Simple Cookies and Cream Valentine's Day Candy Truffles

Forget the store-bought box of chocolates; your Valentine will appreciate the love put into these homemade, cookies and cream chocolate truffles. This Valentine candy recipe combines rich cream cheese with crushed chocolate cookies to make a bite-sized treat that is sure to please the chocolate lover.

First, you will need to gather these ingredients to make your homemade truffles.

8 oz. Cream cheese, softened

4 ½ cups Chocolate sandwich cookies, such as Oreo cookies

16 squares Baker's semi-sweet chocolate

Place softened cream cheese in a mixing bowl and add crushed cookies. To crush the cookies place cookies in a sealable plastic bag. Crush the cookies by rolling a heavy rolling pin back and forth over the cookies. Empty the crushed cookies into the mixing bowl with the cream cheese. Mix together until well blended.

Shape cream cheese mixture into one inch size balls. This recipe makes approximately 48 balls.

Melt chocolate by placing squares into a microwavable bowl. Microwave on High for 2 minutes or until chocolate is melted and smooth. Stir every 30 seconds to prevent over heating.

Dip balls into melted chocolate and coat fully. Place coated balls on a wax paper lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with cookie crumbs or Valentine inspired candy sprinkles. For a traditional look, drizzle melted white chocolate or dark chocolate over the top of the truffle. Place in the refrigerator for 1 hour to firm.

Truffles can be stored in the refrigerator in an air-tight container.

To serve your homemade cookies and cream truffles, place on a decorative tray or package in festive cellophane bags for friends and neighbors.
