Simple DIY Thanksgiving Place Cards

I'm not Martha Stewart and chances are-- neither are you. But if you want to add a little class to your Thanksgiving table without a lot of fuss, place cards are the answer. A little Thanksgiving decoration goes a long way, so here are a few great Thanksgiving place card ideas for your table. The best place to get supplies is a craft store or a scrapbook store. They'll have lots of cute stamps, papers and cutouts with which you can adorn your Thanksgiving place cards. The very simplest place card is one that is placed in the tines of a fork. Basically, you just cut out a square to fit the fork and either write or print the name in fancy script. With a little more trouble, you can buy Thanksgiving colored ribbon to go with your cloth napkins and affix the place card by putting the ribbon through the card. You'll need a hole punch so that you can put the ribbon through the place card.

Very Simple, Very Unique

Pumpkin place cards are a favorite of mine. You'll need:

Small pumpkin

Sharpie

Buy a small pumpkin and use a sharpie to write the name and decorate the pumpkin. It's a simple, easy and unique Thanksgiving place card.

Scrapbook Thanksgiving Place Cards

Here are some instructions for decorative Thanksgiving place cards that are a little more complicated.

You'll need:

Thick paper or card stock base in a color of your choice.

A thin decorative paper

White or cream thin paper

A glue stick

Wine or other glasses

To figure out what size the base card will be is, take a look at the top of the glass you'll be balancing it on. Basically you'll be folding a rectangular piece of the base for the card in half.

Once you've established the size you'll be using, cut out the thick paper or stock card base. Fold it neatly in half.

On the side that will have the name you'll be gluing the decorative paper. Choose something that fits with the Thanksgiving theme or your décor. If the base stock is a complementary color, when you cut the decorative paper you can make it a little smaller than the half of the card you'll be gluing it on.

Once the glue sets, you'll be gluing on the actual name for the Thanksgiving place card. On the white or cream paper you can print out the name on your computer or you can handwrite it. Glue the white paper over the decorative paper using the glue stick. Make sure you cut it out so that it is smaller than the decorative paper so you can see that.

If you want to get fancy with it use can use Thanksgiving themed scrapbook cutouts or stamps to gussy it up!
