To function effectively, the graphic card requires a translator which picks up binary information from the central processing unit to form the images that we are able to see. Though the function is complicated, the main codes and constituent parts are simple to decipher.
If you have decided to upgrade your old graphic card you may be of the opinion that you have to know about the computer to execute the task effectively. But this is not the case; you can upgrade your old graphic card easily. You need to know only the fundamental steps that help you to upgrade your old graphic card without any difficulties.
The first step if you want to upgrade your old graphic card is to choose the card which is compatible with your system. Basically two models of graphic cards are available. One is the PCI (Personal Computer Interconnect) card and the other is the AGP (Accelerated Graphic Port) card. You will be able to find slots for these in all computers generally. Ensure which slot is present in your system or if it contains both the slots, you can choose the one you want. Based on you particular requirements and necessities, different video cards can be bought. If you have a tendency to gaming frequently then the AGP card is the best choice, as its speed is higher than the PCI card.
The gaming experience is increased or boosted considerably with the AGP card and this is the best option if you want to upgrade your old graphic card for the purpose of gaming. The PCI card is more suitable if you want to upgrade your old graphic card for general usage. Once you have selected the model of graphic card to be used, you should then look at the RAM. Depending on the purpose for which you want to upgrade your old graphic card, you can opt for any one of the two, but it is more beneficial if you select the one which has more megabyte space. This will ensure proper functioning of the system.
You have to remove the old graphic card from the system before you upgrade your graphic card in it. If the card present is an in-built one, you can disable it and set up the new one. If the graphic card is present in the slot provided for the AGP or PCI, you need to go to the control panel. Select the device manager option and then click on the display adaptor. You will be able to view the present graphic card in the list. Right click on it and choose the uninstall option. Shut down the system and extract the card from the slot and put in the new card.
Verifying the set up in the system will show whether the graphic card is functioning properly or not. Alter the card setting to that of the new one. When you are finished with all the settings to upgrade your old graphic card, your graphic card will start to function efficiently.
