Simple and Great Toasts for Welcoming 2010

Toasts for the New Year

JUNEANN REED
Here we go - 2010 is fast approaching - and what better way to celebrate than by offering a simple toast. Yes, toasts can be long and elaborate, but by then most of us are just ready to tip the glass!

The following quick and simple toasts can be fun, funny and also very meaningful. My suggestions follow.

1. Always toast to good health. To do what you want in life is much easier when you are healthy.

2. Toast to something funny you did this past year [or your choice]. EX: Remember when we went fishing, almost had that huge fish landed and he jumped out of the net. I'm toasting that this year we try it again and let "John" hold the net".................

3. Toast of thanks to someone who helped you this year as you hope to pass it forward this upcoming year. Mary, I'm really grateful that you drove me around when I broke my leg and arm. Even though it was difficult, we sure had fun together. This year I plan to pass that care forward to whoever else made need it.

4. Toast of friendship - either new, or over the years. This may be very serious, very funny or both. Mary and I have been though hell with that neighborhood party. Next year we hope everyone keeps their dogs tied up or inside!

5. Toast to something you plan to do with someone special. I want to give a toast for the fun we plan to have on that long-awaited trip to Europe. I know you've wanted to go for many years and now finally our dreams are coming true.

Have fun with toasting. Of course some people are just naturals, but you too, can simply wish everyone present a great new year. If you wish, you can ask someone else to join in - or you could even have a group toast!

My toast to you is simply good health, much happiness and a wonderful 2010. May we all ask for peace, wisdom understanding and strength to accomplish what becomes "ours" during the new year.

  • There are really no rules. Toasts can be short or more elaborate.
  • Toasts can be funny or serious.
  • Toasts can be made by a joint group or one.
Doesn't it just make you feel good when someone toasts you and highlights something special about you or yours. Try it, do it! You'll feel good too.
