Simple Halloween Crafts for Kids

Amanda Herron
Keep younger children entertained and in the Halloween fun with the simple Halloween crafts. The crafts are perfect for school kids, preschool classes or just after school fun.

Spooky Ghost Prints

Give each child a black piece of construction paper. Help them fold the paper in half horizontally. Open the paper back up and squirt a few dollops of white paint in the center. Show the kids how to squish along the seam and then open the paper back up to see their ghostly Halloween pattern.

Let the ghost shapes dry. Then let children decorate their designs with silver and gold glitter, wiggle eyes, markers or scraps of colored paper. Hang the ghost design crafts on the front door or in your windows for Halloween.

Wooden Spoon Witch Puppets

Paint a wooden spoon green (or any color your kids want the witch to be). Cut a large circle of black felt and cut a slit halfway into center. Slide the spoon into the center of the center up to the head and wrap the rest of the circle's flaps over. Use fabric or super glue to secure the witch's dress.

Next paint or color a popsicle stick green. Wrap a piece of felt around the length of the stick leaving ½ inch of either end poking out for the witch's hands. Glue the center of the black felt covered stick to the back of the witch's body.

Glue strands of yarn on the top of the witch's wooden spoon head to hang down for hair. Glue a construction paper hat on top and decorate the witch's face with wiggle eyes and construction paper features. This simple Halloween craft is easy for classes and after school care.

Sparkly Spider Webs

Give each child a piece of construction paper (black works best for this Halloween craft). Show the children how to draw a spider web using liquid glue. First draw a cross as tall and wide as you want your spider web. Then draw two more lines through the cross to make an asterisk star. Then Star at the outside edges and draw a curved line connected each of the star's spokes. Continue until you reach the center.

Older children may want to try writing a special Halloween message in their spider webs like in Charlotte's Web. When the glue looks like a spider web, let children shake glitter in any color over the glue. Allow the webs to dry and shake off the excess glitter.

Jack-O-Lantern Masks

Paint paper plates orange for a simple Halloween mask craft. Even very young children can do this craft, just let them use crayons instead of paint. Color the entire plate orange, then draw a jack-o-lantern face with black markers or crayons. (Let kids be creative and draw any face they want.) Make sure the eye shapes are large enough to cut holes out of and still see the black around them. Add a piece of green construction paper at the top for a pumpkin stem and tie the masks onto your children with yarn.
