Simple Homemade Hummus

Bethany Wenger
Hummus is delicious tasting as a side, or as a dip served with pita chips. Hummus always tastes better homemade rather than from a jar at the store. This recipe for homemade hummus is simple, and you can add ingredients to fit any taste.

Homemade Hummus:

1 can garbanzo beans (chickpeas) drained, reserve 1/3 cup of the liquid

3 tablespoons lemon juice

½ cup sesame seeds

1 crushed clove of garlic

1-teaspoon salt

Fresh chopped parsley

Pita chips, bread, or fresh veggies for dipping!

Now, here comes the super easy part. Simply place all the ingredients except the parsley and dipping items into a blender or food processor and puree! Voila! You just made hummus!

You can modify this recipe for homemade hummus very simply. You can add roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, you name it the possibilities are endless!

To serve you homemade hummus like they do in Turkey place the hummus in a bowl. Use a spoon to made a depression in the center (my son calls it making a volcano, which is very descriptive) and pour olive oil into the center depression. Surround the bowl with pita bread wedges, and you are ready to eat!
