Simple Ideas for Christmas Tree Decorations

It's the Spirit that Counts!

Regardless of any link with simplicity, Christmas tree decorations can bring out the creative side of anyone.

The most simple ideas for Christmas tree decorations can always reflect the spirit of the season, even as these simple decorations might come from the most personalized and unique imagination or are of the more traditional variety.

Classic/Traditional Ideas for Christmas Tree Decorations

Christmas tree decorations can retain a touch of traditional elegance while still being simple to create.

Pine cones, for example, are certainly a traditional expression of the holiday season and can easily be used as a simple Christmas tree decoration. You only have to paint them in silver or gold and hang them with a wire.

Unbuttered and unsalted popcorn and cranberries can also be strung around the Christmas tree with the traditional and simple elegance of a Charles Dickens novel.

But should simple ideas for Christmas tree decorations be confined to the pages and the snow globes of the past?

What about a more personalized approach to making Christmas tree decorations?

Homemade Ideas for Christmas Tree Decorations

If your goal is to include the whole family in decorating the Christmas tree, then you should obviously make use of those homemade decorations which will make your Christmas tree as personalized as possible.

Even though the smallest children might not be able to use fancy ribbons, for example, they can still hang those toys they find in Happy Meal boxes on the Christmas tree.

Even the seasonal Happy Meal boxes can be cut into unique shapes and used as colorful ornaments.

Homemade snowmen that older children can bring home as part of a school project can be another simple idea for a Christmas tree decoration. With their Styrofoam bodies, egg carton hats, and a pipe cleaner that holds them all together, homemade snowmen can be stored and reused year after year.

Think also of including sons and daughters who are in the military by using military insignia as a Christmas tree decoration. No one has to feel left out at Christmas even though they are miles away.

Cookie cutters can also be a shiny addition to any Christmas tree. Just fill them with tinsel and you have a unique ornament.

In sum, there can be many simple ideas for Christmas tree decorations. These ideas can range from the traditional to the more personalized.

What matters is that any Christmas tree decoration can reflect the spirit of the season, whether it comes from the store or from the heart.

I used to love stringing popcorn and making paper chains out of Christmas cards when I was a child. I still remember doing that. Those were the good old days in many ways.

I've tried stringing popcorn, but must not have done it right ... the kernels just broke apart. There must be a trick, huh? Thanks for the great suggestions.

I've always wanted to string popcorn and cranberries but I've never done it.
