Simple Ideas for Landscaping Your House

Cassie Mae
Here are a few tips for some simple ideas to landscape your yard.

Plant Bushes
What You Will Need:
Fifteen bushes
Shovel
Water can
Water
And/or
Concrete stepping stones-enough to create a walk-way
Mum flowers

Do you have a side of the house you do not use? We never seem to go on the west side of our house. When we first bought our house sixteen years ago we thought all of the bushes on the west side of the house looked "different."

The bushes are all in one big lump practically taking up the entire yard area. Although there is a grass path to walk from the front of the house to the back. We decided to keep this look as we never use that side of the house anyways. Plus, with the price of gas we are saving money not having to mow on the west side of the house except for the path to walk on.

You may want to consider finding a bush that appeals to your eye and plant about fifteen of them, depending on the size of your yard.

Don't want to just plant bushes? You could add some concrete stone between the bushes. Make a path walk way with the concrete stepping stones. Plant the bushes far enough away so you can walk between them. It would be lovely to plant mums scattered throughout the area to bring vibrant color to landscape. Mums come in white, yellow, brown, and purple colors.

1A) Plant Bushes
1) Call Diggers Hot Line to make sure no cables or wires are in area you will be digging.
2) Dig holes for fifteen bushes.
3) Put water in each hole about one fourth of the way.
4) Place one bush into each hole.
5) Cover hole up with dirt.
6) Water outside of bush.

2A) Concrete Stepping Stones
1) Dig three inches or more depending on concrete stepping stone thickness. Dig the hole deep enough so that the stone is level with the ground.
2) Place stepping stone inside hole you dug.
3) Make sure dirt is surrounded tightly around stepping stone.

3A) Planting Mums
1) Dig holes for mums you wish to plant.
2) Pour water into hole about one fourth deep.
3) Let water seep somewhat into the ground.
4) Place mum into ground.
5) Cover mum roots with dirt.
6) Water outside of mum.

White Corner Fence
What You Will Need:
Two white corner fences
Large rocks
Mums

Install a white corner fence at the end of your driveway. You can find the white corner fence at Menard's or Home Depot. Place one white corner fence on each side of your driveway.

Plant mums of your color choice or use multiple colors per directions so mums are far enough apart.

Place large rocks in an arranged pile throughout the area of the white corner fence.

Or you could use hearty sunflowers seeds to grow around your white corner fence. Sunflowers are easy to care for and grow exuberantly. Be sure to plant in spring so sunflower seeds will be ready for summer and fall.

1) Call Diggers Hotline before digging holes for your fence posts.
2) Dig holes large enough to fit fence posts.
3) Place dirt back to area to cover fence posts and level out the lawn.
4) Plant mums between rocks. Dig hole. Fill with water one fourth full. Let water seep into ground somewhat. Place mum into hole. Cover hole back up with dirt.
5) Place large rocks to desired look.
6) If using sunflower seeds plant per directions. Be sure not to cover seeds with rock.

Edge of Yard Fence
What You Will Need:
Wood fence-style of your choice-rustic looking logs would be my favorite.
Nails
Shovel
Watering can
Water
Burning bushes

Install Wood Fence
1) Before installing wood fence please be sure to call Diggers Hotline. You do not want to dig into any cables or wires. Besides being highly dangerous, you will get a hefty fine.
2) Dig holes for wood fence posts at the edge of your yard.
3) Place wood fence posts into ground.
4) Bury wood fence posts with dirt.
5) On the inside of the fence, plant burning bushes.

To plant burning bushes
1) Dig large enough hole for burning bush.
2) Fill hold about one fourth full of water.
3) Let water seep somewhat into the ground.
4) Place burning bush into ground.
5) Cover up with dirt.

You will have gorgeous overflowing bushes within a few years. The color of the natural wood against the vibrant bushes is a stunning contrast.
