Simple Instructions for Creating a Side Swept Hairstyle

Creating a pretty and fun side swept hairstyle is very easy and can be created at home for a fraction of what you would pay at a salon. Depending on what style your outfit is (dressy or casual) you can create a chic side swept hairstyle with a few simple tricks. Here are some instructions on how to create a side swept hairstyle at home.

Casual

One of my favorite ways to wear a ponytail is swept off to the side. All you need for this look is a rubber band and hairspray. First, gather your hair like you would for a regular ponytail and simply brush it over to one side. Make sure its a low ponytail, as a high ponytail will make you look dated. Once you have your ponytail in place, you are good to go! I personally like to take a small piece of hair on the non-pony tailed side and curl it into a single tendril. Jeweled bobby pins, hair clips embellished with flowers, and a single satin ribbon make a nice finishing touch to your low side swept ponytail.

Dressy

To create a romantic side swept hairstyle for dressy occasions, you will need a curling iron, hairspray, bobby pins, an alligator clip, and a small comb. First, heat up the curling iron and then roll your hair into long ringlets. Once your hair is completely curled, take the small comb and gently begin teasing the top part of your hair up in a small bouffant. Next, back comb your curled hair to give it extra body (the best way to do this is to bend your head down and brush your hair from the back). Once you have the desired height and body created, take the small comb and brush all of your hair over to the side. Secure it in place with a long alligator clip and bobby pins and spray, spray, spray. Again, make sure your hair isn't teased too big or too high, as you do not want to take a bad trip back to the 80s with a dated look.

Hair accessories that accent a dressy side swept hair style magnificently are jeweled clips and hair fascinators. These can be found at any boutique that sells accessories such as Claire's or Francesca's Collections. Also, a very pretty look for spring is to stick small flowers into your curls. Have fun and be creative!
