Simple Life

David Whitsell
Ours is not a simple life my doll.

We fight and squabble over many things.

The list is long; the list is tall.

The ride has been slower, yet more stressful -

Since I found you.

But we love each other so much.

What can we do?

This left-handed compliment is an attempt at healing our hurts . . .

At healing our hearts.

Like the diamond ring on your hand.

Our life is strong, hard, and intricately crafted.

So are the ties that bind us together.

Frustratingly rich is what we are.

For our love is a poison that heals.

Remember this above all else.

When in the pit of you contempt.

Our life is not simple, easy, or trite . . .

But neither is our love.
