The first tip is to consider your mental game. Yes, I know they all say that. There is a reason they do. Golf demands that you be in a good mood to play well. Your game must be relaxed. You must concentrate on the fact that things can go wrong but that when they don't things are great. With the correct attitude your golf game and your putting will improve. Consider this of all the things that can happen in the end the thing that will happen is that the ball will go into the cup. If you know it will happen you will be able to mentally prepare for the fact that it will.
Now that you know that the ball will go into the cup the next thing to concentrate on is how close can you get to the hole. One of the first things I learned is that most people can make a three foot putt. So everything you do must be aimed at getting within three foot of the hole. If you can get there you will have a wonderful chance to make the putt. If you can do that on a consistent basis you can easily knock off several points from your game. So the point is whether you are off the green or on you are going to try to make your shot be within three foot of the hole.
Now if you are not making those shots it is time we go to the next tip. Practice is always the best tip for improving your game but that can be boring especially if you don't get out as much as you want to. But then again who does? So why not practice while you are playing? Here is what I mean. Begin with one approach then after you get that then you can refine it. So here is what can be done to improve your putting game over the long haul.
Unless the putt is really uphill, downhill or some other really contorted manner then what you need to do is aim directly for the hole. If you do that you will be concentrating on the first step of improving your putt and that is practicing your speed. Speed on the green is one of the most vital parts of the putt. It is what involves distance and how near you can get to the hole. Remember in the beginning you are only looking to get within three feet. So this tip is to aim for the hole, just do a straight to the hole shot and worry only about the speed.
So to improve your game, improve your putting. To improve your putting you need to have a good mental attitude. You need to get within three feet of the hole. You need to begin to practice judging the speed of your putt on the green. If you do these three things your putting game will improve.
