Simple Skills and the Basis of Natural Magic

John Savage
This is not ritual magic in which a circle must be cast and the elements called forth along with the God and Goddess. If you are at a friends' house, or somewhere other than your sacred space, then you can perform these less elaborate spells to accomplish a goal. Use the information available to you to align as many elements as you can, at the time, to perform your spell.

The first thing you must do is have a goal in mind. If your friend is sick, then your goal might be to make him/her well. Second, see what tools you might have at hand. Most locations will either have herbs and spices in a kitchen cabinet, or trees outside, such as an old willow with awesome healing properties, or candles that may be lying around and can be used. Look outside and see if you can find a blue stone to induce healing energy. Then rub it into the effected area and withdraw the sickness with your receptive hand, or the one you don't write with. If you have more than one tool available to you, use them all if you feel it. Do what feels natural, light some incense, divine the problem, and determine the best course of action.

Also remember that your perception is one of your biggest assets in natural magic. Be observant, look into more than just the obvious, look around you, and inside of yourself. Spend some time alone in nature; learn to feel its rhythms, and the harmony of the world around you. Believe it or not, doing this alone will make someone who is under the weather feel better. Our biggest enemies are our technology, and our way of life. Stress is the number one cause of unhappiness and physical discomfort, and releasing it feels oh so good.

If you feel that negative energy is to blame, then withdraw it; if you think there is not enough positive energy is present, than gather it and focus it at the effected area. Or even do one that the other until you feel that balance has been restored. Use a stone to trap negative energy and bury it. Apply healing salve, or give them a healing tea made with raw honey and spring water; or, simply use prayer. The possibilities are endless. Remember, knowledge is your most powerful tool. Also remember that visualization is one tool you do not need to carry with you, however, you do need to sharpen its edge. I would suggest meditating once a day for at least fifteen minutes, so as to hone your skills.
