Simple Steps to Get Polished Eyebrows at Home

Eloah James
To get polished looking eyebrows at home will require a bit of work the first time, but thereafter will be relatively easy to maintain. Once they are groomed the first time, you will only need to do some occasional trimming and tweezing to keep them in the proper shape, about every 2 weeks or so. This may need to be done less or more often depending on your personal rate of hair growth.

You will need several tools for the job, a few of which will not be found in a standard makeup kit. First, you will need a sheet of thin, clear, stiff plastic in order to create an eyebrow template. You will also need an eyeliner or brow liner pencil in an appropriate shade for your eyebrows, an eyebrow comb or clean mascara wand, some small scissors or an eyebrow trimmer, tweezers and/or facial wax hair removal strips, and hair gel. There are also eyebrow kits available with ready made templates.

To determine the shape of eyebrow that will be best and most flattering to your face shape, look at these options and read which types are best for which face and eye shapes. You may also use a photo editing program to "try on" different shapes till you find the kind of eyebrows that you like best. Print or draw the chosen shape onto the plastic and cut it out. There is no need to make 2 templates, as you can just reverse the one to change brows.

Place the template over your eyebrow and use the pencil to heavily outline the shape. If you have trouble holding the template in place, you can lightly apply spirit gum to stick the plastic to your skin. Trim and tweeze or wax any brow hair that falls outside the template area. Use the comb to smooth the hairs out and brush away any cut brow ends when you are done. Use the pencil to fill in any thin areas, if you wish. If the original pencil marks are too dark, you can use a cotton swab or a clean makeup brush to rub off the excess and lighten it up.

Once your brows are brushed and colored to your liking, for a final touch, dip the comb lightly into the hair gel. You will only need a very small amount. Gently brush it through the brows to hold them in place.
