Simple Steps to Quickly Revamp Your Boring Bathroom

The one room of the house that always seems to become an eyesore is the bathroom. This room, because of its very nature, tends to collect things that we generally want out of sight, and out of mind. So, let's take a look at a few quick fixes for the bathroom so that you can comfortably say with a smile, "The bathroom is just down the hall on the left."

First we should look at the walls. Are they covered with old, yellowing wall paper from the 1970's? Well, we need to fix that right now. Start by removing the paper. It is VERY important to follow this step. Some people may try to tell you that you can get away with painting over it, but, this is not true. In this room of high heat and humidity, the old paper can, and will, peel when you least expect it. So, let's rip that out and paint this room.

Next we look to the flooring. Is it still in good shape? Does it match your new ideas for this room? If the answer to either of these is no, then, rip it out. There are quite a few choices out there today for floor coverings that are cost effective, and easy to install.

Our next job is the cabinets. Unless they are really trashed, you will probably only want to sand and paint these to match your color scheme. Although the average person could install cabinets, this job requires knowledge and tools that most people just don't have. So, either paint, or call a professional for this job to make sure it gets done right.

Now, after the major work is complete, we come to accessories. There are many choices in many stores. From palm trees, to cows, to lighthouses, you can find anything you desire with accessories. It's your bathroom, so stock it with designs that you enjoy. Towels, wash cloths, soap dispensers, toilet seats, and shower curtains are just a few of the items you may want to replace.

You may have noticed that I did not mention the fixtures (sink, tub, and toilet). Once again, these are things best left to professionals. There are just too many things that could go horribly wrong and literally destroy your home, and bank account. So, call a plumber.

OK, now your have the basic plan. Grab your husband, or wife, and go to your local home décor store. Pick out the color and patterns you can both be happy with, and get to it. Before long you'll see a room that you can be proud of for years to come.
