Here's a quarter-by-quarter guide to catering the big game with no red flags. You pick the plays!

Before you begin preparing the food, be sure to gather paper napkins, plates, balloons and other items in the logo colors of your favorite team. Add a pennant or two, if you wish. After all, if you host the party, then you have the home field advantage!

Of course, some hosts do prefer to remain neutral. Such folks might choose to don black-and-white striped referee shirts for their Super Bowl gathering.

Ready? Start the clock! Let's go for it!

First Quarter: Super Bowl Snacks

Kick off the party with Super Bowl Snacks. Pretzels, peanuts, popcorn and other favorites top the list. For extra fun, line a football helmet with a festive napkin, and fill it with dry snacks!

Of course, no football party is complete without chips and dip. Make it healthy with baked tortilla chips and Super Bowl Scrimmage Salsa. (Click here for the recipe.)

Second Quarter: Super Bowl Salad

Bigger is better, especially when it comes to fresh produce! Grab the biggest salad bowl you can find, and fill it with your favorites. A surefire party pleaser is the Super Bowl Spinach-and-Strawberry Spiral and Spin Salad. (Click here for the recipe.)

Halftime: Super Bowl Soup and Sandwiches

Your crowd will especially enjoy the halftime festivities, if you set out a bountiful spread of soup and sandwiches for this interval.

Choose your favorite soup, or offer a couple. Healthy dieters might prefer Turkey Chili (Click here for the recipe.), while cold-climate football fans might opt for Place-Kickers Potato Chowder. (Click here for the recipe.)

Earn extra points with your favorite sports fans by offering First Down Favorite Sandwiches with your choice of fillings: tuna, egg salad, chicken salad, or deli meats and cheeses. Select your bread, create your sandwiches, and then trim them into football shapes.

As another option, fill pocket pitas with your fixings, and arrange them on a giant platter in the shape of your team's logo.

Third Quarter: Super Bowl Sundaes

Here's the wild card in your menu. No scrambling! You simply supply an assortment of ice creams and toppings, and let the teams do the rest. You can't beat that winning percentage!

Remember! I scream! You scream! We all scream for our team!

Fourth Quarter: Super Bowl Sippers

Prepare your football fans for safety, as the game comes to an end. Offer them a few choices of coffees, teas, cocoas and waters during the last quarter. You might even serve Super Bowl Sideline Cider. (Click here for the recipe.)

These final beverages will hold your guests till they reach their own territory.

After the final time out has been called, it will be time to call in your special teams to collect cups, plates and other items. Tackle the cleanup job by calling in reinforcements! If they hesitate, you can always drop a flag and call a foul!
