The tools that you will need to replace the door gasket of a wood stove.
1. You will need a chisel, screwdriver, and a knife
2. You will need a utility knife
3. You will need a high temperature RTV ( Room Temperature Vulcanizing ) sealant
4. You will need a new gasket
Now that you have the proper tools and equipment, here is what you need to do.
Start at the seam or at a break in the old gasket, and then gently pull it away from the door. Next you will follow with a screwdriver, chisel, or a knife to help clear away the old sealant and gasket that is left remaining from the mounting surface or channel.
When the channel of the door is completely clean, you can then apply a liberal amount of the high temperature RTV sealant completely around the door channel surface. Keep in mind that you can also use another type of sealant that is specified by the manufacturer.
Now you will need to press the new gasket firmly into place, making sure to seat it completely in the bed of the sealant for a secure and proper fit. If trimming is necessary, you will then cut carefully to ensure a tight fit at the butt joint. You will then close the wood stove door and wait for at least twenty four hours. This will help maintain the pressure on the seal until it has a chance to completely dry.
That is all there is to it, easy and simple techniques to replace the door gasket in your wood burning stove so it will work more efficiently and give you the warmth you need for your home. Not only will it work properly and more efficiently, it will give you the reassurance that you will get the most out of your wood burning stove.
