Simple Tips for a Budget Cinco De Mayo Party

Ambrosia Jefferson
May is just around the corner, and a favorite celebration for this month is of course Cinco de Mayo. Throwing a Cinco de Mayo party does not have to be a costly venture. There are so many ways that you can make it fun and affordable. I am going to cover a few money saving tips I have found handy for my own party.

Music is the first thing that comes to mind with any party. You do not have to go out and hire a costly DJ or band for your event. With all of the legal downloading programs where you pay .99cents per song, or if you have the CD's yourself it's easy to have hours of music. You will need CD burning software on your computer and blank CD's. You can pick these up any local shop for an affordable price. Just select your songs onto your computer via your CD collection or your download choices and burn them onto your blank CD's. Simple, easy and cheap you can have hours worth of great music.

Decorations and invitations may seem like a tricky idea but they really aren't. One of my favorite ways to make an invitation is to use my word processor on the computer. Make your invitation look like a fun flyer, it will get people in the party mood and it's easy to do and print. Most word processors come with some clipart or you can use a site like clipart.com to decorate your invite. You can also do virtual invites there are a lot of free websites my favorite is evite.com it's free, and easy to use. Decorations for Cinco de Mayo really just need one thing, bright colors. Pick up some tissue paper, and construction paper and you can make flowers and chain links in bright festive colors. This is a project you could ask the whole family to do, and have some fun with.

The last thing to think about, but perhaps the most important is food. A party needs some kind of food to truly be a hit. But be reasonable when you think of your party food, you do not need to prepare a 5 course meal. For Cinco de Mayo think of easy fun snacks, how about some tortilla chips and homemade salsa! There are some great recipe sites with fast and easy salsa choices that are sure to keep your guests happy. Another favorite that is also more filling would be Tamales. This is a traditional food for Cinco de Mayo and you can find a great recipe for that at foodnetwork.com. They are easy to make in large batches and should keep all of your guests happy.

These are just a few money saving tips for your next party. But they should get you started. As with any party the best thing you can do for Cinco de Mayo is to have fun. Remember that it's a celebration and don't let yourself get stressed about it.
